The Child Development Centre (CDC)

The Child Development Centre (CDC) is an early years setting for children with additional needs to attend with their parents/carers from birth to the age of about three years.  We are situated within Battledown Centre for Children & Families.
We aim to:

  • Offer support and reassurance for parents/carers.  Giving them a safe place to share their joys and worries.
  • Ensure good communication between all professionals involved with families.
  • Provide the opportunity to talk to parents of other children who have had a difficult start.
  • Focus on what the child can do and help each child to reach their full potential.

What we do:

Session times are: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings 9.30-11.30 and Monday afternoon session 1.00 - 3.00pm

  • Each  session is planned and led by specialist early years practitioners.
  • Speech and language therapists visit regularly to give advice and guidance for children who are on their caseload.
  • We work closely with the Advisory Teacher Service and Educational Psychology Service for advice and guidance about the children attending CDC.
  • We provide ideas to stimulate children’s play and fully develop their potential for learning.
  • Total Communication strategies are integral to the way we support learning through play.
  • We work in partnership with parents and the Team Around the Child to produce ‘My Plans’ for each child.

We find lots of ways to make learning fun.
