INFOCUS
INformal, Friendly Opportunities, Caring, Understanding Support
INFOCUS is coordinated by our Family Worker, Sarah Bell. It is an informal group for parents and carers to meet in the Parents’ Room, usually once or twice a term during a morning session.
Speakers are invited to give informative talks on many subjects, all requested by families at Battledown. Previously we have looked at Feeding Issues, Statementing, the Role of the Educational Psychologist, Sensory Integration, Potty Training and Behaviour Management. We also have giftware and book coffee mornings and are always pleased to hear of anything you would like to know more about for future sessions.
We try to address some of the difficult situations parents and carers experience by sharing ideas and offering support. As a result of this we now have; a visiting hair dresser for children who find visiting a salon too distressing; contacts with a swimming instructor who works one to one with children with Special Educational Needs; links with ex-parents to help you plan your child’s next school after Battledown and advice and information on equipment, eg. car seats/bigger buggies etc.
INFOCUS enables regular two way communication between parents and school. It is also a valuable link with the Local Authority to feed back and gather parent/carer views on current services and new projects via Sarah, who is a Parent Rep on several panels who value the voice of the parent/carer.
During INFOCUS sessions a crèche is provided on site to give you some time to relax, meet other parents and enjoy a chat over coffee and cake. Share some tips, maybe pick up some new ones and let us know how we can support you and your child during your time at Battledown. Look out for forth coming events in the newsletters and flyers via the home/school diary.
