The Battledown Friends Group (BFG) is a charity set-up to support the school and in particular the children and their families.

The school plays a very special role in our community, providing much needed support for local special needs children, enabling them to have fun, learn and grow in a safe environment.

As a parent of a special needs child, I fully understand some of the emotions you may go through when you find out that things are going to be different from what you had imagined, from shock, guilt, frustration and confusion and you are now in a world alien to most and difficult to come to terms with.

My son Jack has attended the school for a few years and very quickly, I realised what a fantastic place the school is and how amazing the staff and friends are that support it.

I’m sure that I can speak for most people who become connected to the school, you feel that you want to give something back and help out in some small way.

Early in 2008 the BFG’s continuation was uncertain, as they couldn’t find a chairperson. Realising the importance of the BFG, I volunteered my help and eventually took on this role.

Having chaired a number of meetings, I am over whelmed at the energy, time and commitment the voluntary BFG team give to ensure the school’s children and their families receive really great support, making their lives just that bit easier.

The current BFG focus is aimed at helping support the school replace the outside play equipment and school bus. Both of these projects are cash hungry and we aim to raise money through various activities. Our most obvious activities around the school are the annual Summer Fete and Christmas Fair.

So, if you want to get involved, come along and see for yourself!

Best Wishes,

Shaun Thornley
BFG Chairperson
